ABOUT CEREMONY

Ceremony was the first drawing I did for the 12 Buddhas Collection. This entire black and white collection came into existence because of the profound impression left upon me by a painting at a Burmese exhibition I attended early 2010.

The exhibition, featuring work by local Burmese artists, mainly displayed paintings of deities taken from various religious temples in Burma. One painting that I particularly liked was done in black and white and was of a three headed elephant, with many gods and goddesses drawn all over its body. The background was solid black. I would have bought this piece if it was not sold within the first 5 minutes of the official opening.

I thought about this painting for weeks afterwards and was eventually inspired to create my own elephant. The outcome is this drawing you are now looking at. If it wasn’t for that particular painting at the exhibition and that it was already sold, my 12 Buddhas Collection would never have come into existence. Spirit certainly works in mysterious ways.
